Our Part in the KA1 Course: Description
Advances in technology and medicine have significantly extended human lifespan in the last century. The increase in the elderly population around the world has created new needs for these individuals to adapt to social life and developing technology. It has become important to know the physical, cognitive and behavioral changes that may occur in people with old age, and to plan and implement an effective support.
Our course provides a framework on how to support older people in their adaptation to technology, how to share their feelings and experiences, which methods will be more effective to use, and how they can be in solidarity with each other. The course also provides an opportunity to share the thoughts and suggestions of different experts and individuals. Focusing on the basic needs of the elderly in the field of technology, the course will contribute directly to the elderly people and the personnel working with them in meeting these needs. Course content and discussions are based on real-life experiences and possibilities.
We start by raising awareness about what the concept of the elderly person means and introducing different approaches. We approach the needs and limitations of individuals in this group based on their health and individual happiness. Then, we focus on the obstacles and problems that prevent them from being more social and technological, and examine lived experiences and new ideas.
Maintaining daily routines, setting limits, giving praise and being consistent are key elements of working with older people. However, together we will explore small changes and collaborations that can help older people reach and continue to their potential. Participants will participate in activities aimed at positive communication, learning from each other, using an exploratory language, developing solidarity among family and friends and feeling better, coping with problems and recognizing innovations. We are planning to teach the use of tools that will contribute to the basic needs in the field of health, such as smart watches and digital measuring devices.
